Florida Lawn Care | Fort Lauderdale Lawn Care
The Total Lawn Care Program
The Total Lawn Care Program (TLC Program) is an all inclusive lawn treatment program that includes protection against harmful insects and diseases of the lawn, fertilization and broad leaf weed control. Controlling broadleaf weeds helps turfgrasses develop a dense, uniform cover that resists further weed invasion, reduces mowing requirements and improves the appearance of a Florida property.
Our Florida Lawn Analysis will include:
- Your lawn’s overall health
- Identify the grasses present in your lawn
- Identify your soil type and its condition
- Identify any weeds that are visible
- Identify destructive insects that seem to be present
- Identify any diseases that seem to be affecting your lawn as well as recommend controls if necessary
- Indicate what grass types are best suited to your area
- Proper mowing heights and watering techniques
- Evaluate the thatch level of your lawn
Evaluate your lawn’s potential and explain how your Fort Lauderdale lawn can be improved. On six scheduled visits throughout the year, a thorough inspection of your lawn is performed. At that time a determination is made as to what treatment or application should be applied to insure a healthier, greener lawn.
The General Lawn Care Program
The General Lawn Care Program is for customers who want their lawns treated for harmful insects and fungus. Like the TLC, we are on schedule to service the lawn every other month, six times a year. A power sprayer is used to apply an insecticide to the lawn for control of chinch bugs, armyworms, sod web worms, and fire ants. Insects are not a common cause of residential lawn damage, but certain insect species occasionally damage or kill turfgrass.
Insect feeding can cause grass to turn yellow or brown, or die, especially if the grass is already stressed. Damage usually begins in scattered small patches, which may merge into large dead areas. Our service technicians will also be looking for fungus conditions such as brown patch and gray leaf spot. Brown patch is a very common lawn disease that is caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani .
Gray leaf spot is a foliar disease that affects perennial ryegrass and tall fescue. It is caused by a fungal pathogen (Pyricularia grisea) that readily infects and kills leaf blades. Leaf infections may progress into the crown area, resulting in death of individual plants. Moderate outbreaks of gray leaf spot may result in clusters of thin, off-colored turf. However, severe outbreaks will result in the death and decay of extensive areas and ruin the entire turf stand. If a condition like this exists, a fungicide will be applied. There are two basic classifications of lawn fungicides:
- Contact fungicides: Contacts remain on the outside of the plant and form a protective barrier against diseases that penetrate the leaf blade.
- Systemic fungicides: Systemic funguses enter inside the plant and travel throughout the plant’s vascular system. They act in both protective and curative fashion. Working both before and after the disease has started.
Lawn recommendations for Homeowners
Watering and mowing practices will have a direct impact on the general condition of any lawn. Improper watering and mowing methods will contribute to a lawn being in a stressed state and therefore make it more susceptible to disease, insects, and weeds. Improper mowing causes more problems on lawns than any other maintenance practice. Many lawns are mowed too short, not often enough, and/or with a dull mower blade. Drought and lack of watering often lead to blue-green coloring or footprints that remain in the turf after you’ve walked on it. If insects or diseases are present, you may also notice brown patches or chewed grass blades. Our service technicians will advise customers as to the proper watering, mowing, and fertilizing practices for their lawn and will leave an invoice each time explaining what service was performed that day. If a customer should notice a problem in the lawn in between our regularly scheduled visits, we will return for free re-treatment.
